2014 was a magical year here at Ascent. From winning awards, to completing key projects, to putting great people to work, we have achieved a strong track record of success. We couldn’t have accomplished it all without our amazing team, our incredible clients and our dedicated business partners. We’re grateful for each and every one of you. We’re excited to share a few highlights from our year here, and we thank you for being a part of them.
In May, Ascent Group was awarded the Mercury 100 from Boulder County Business Report. This annual event recognizes BizWest’s ranking of the 100 fastest-growing private companies in the Boulder Valley. BizWest annually ranks companies based on two-year revenue growth, and the 2014 list was based on growth from 2011 to 2013. The 100 companies are divided into two lists – 50 companies with more than $2 million in annual revenue and 50 companies with less than $2 million in annual revenue. Ascent ranked #27 on the list for companies with less than $2 million in annual revenue. We’ve proud of this achievement and we thank our clients, vendors and employees for a successful year.
While we were pleased with this news, we were even more excited to see one of our top clients, homebuilder Boulder Creek Neighborhoods, ranked #1 of companies with more than $2 million in revenue. They achieved a whopping 460 percent growth over two-year period, and we couldn’t be more delighted for them!
We were gratified to see several key projects wrap up this year including Union Station, which officially reopened in July. The station’s grand opening marked the end of a $54-million transformation of the 120-year-old station and $500-million regional transit center. It took a village to complete Union Station, and we’re glad to have been a part of the team that made it happen. Ascent was instrumental in helping shape, fit and support ceiling, wall and MEP (Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing) elements within the main structure of the station. We had the privilege of working with many of our highly regarded partners on this initiative, including Kiewit, one of North America’s largest and most respected construction organizations; AECOM, a global provider of professional technical, management support and engineering services; and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), one of the leading architecture, urban planning, interior design, and engineering firms in the world.
We’re also extremely proud of the work we completed in 2014 at the GVA School, Flatirons Village (featured above) and Boulder Creek Neighborhoods. We couldn’t have accomplished it all without several key new players though. New hires for the year include Rich Farnham, EIT and Adam Rendon, PE. Rich was once an intern here at Ascent and holds a BS from CU. He’s an avid climber, rider and a Mountain Rescue Member. Adam is from the Bay area and holds a Masters from CalPoly. We’re also glad to have several contract employees onboard including Kyle Swartz, PE, Arthur Williamson, CAD Tech and Teresa Brotherton, CAD Tech.
We’re grateful for an amazing year and we’re looking forward to another! We have a lot planned for 2015, including multiple high profile projects in Denver, more innovative work in the Federal space, and several projects with some of our favorite local breweries. We thank you for your continued support and encourage you to follow our progress throughout the year here on our blog.
